King of the court is played with a total of EITHER 4 or 5 teams, 2 will be in the field, the others will be waiting their turn behind the Court. There is a king side of the court and a challengers side. Which team will start where is determined by the drawing of lots. Each rally will start with a serve from the team at the challengers side. Each team is free to pick which player will serve.
If the team on the challengers side wins the rally, they move to the king side and the other team will leave the court and will have to wait their turn to serve again on the challengers side. If the team on the king side wins the rally, they will stay on the king side and get 1 point. Teams are only able to score points while they are on the king side. When a team on the challengers side makes a mistake during the serve, they’re out and need to join the back of the line. However the team on the King side will not gain a point unless in the last 3 minutes of a set! There is a maximum 8 sec between two rally’s. The referee will closely monitoring this. During the rally, current beach volleyball rules apply.
If there’s a situation when two teams end with the same amount of points at the end of a round, then whoever had the higher score on the previous round will go through. If the bottom teams have the same score in the first round then they will play a knock out sudden death point. Whichever team is first in line will get to receive that serve.
The next round will start in order of result of the previous round. So number 1 starts at king side, number 2 at challengers side, number 3 second serve position, etc. There are no time-outs and no breaks. The game is played on time.
The end of each round is determined by the buzzer. This means the end of the rally. Points will still be award to the current rally if it has not finished. The team with the lowest score at the end of each round will be eliminated.
ABNORMAL KING OF THE COURT SCORING RULES
- If set 2 or 3 is tied the team that won the previous set finishes higher placed.
- If there are 2 teams on the bottom at the end of set 1 then they play a golden point to see who is eliminated. Serve receiver is whoever is next in line to go
on.
- If there are 3 teams on the bottom at the end of set one then 2 points must be played as golden point. Team 1 (next in line to go on or already in king spot) and team 2 will play (2nd in line). Winner goes through. Then Team 3 (last in line) plays golden point against the loser of the first point. Team 3 gets the option of choosing to serve or receive as they only get one chance. They only get the one chance as they were at the back of the line meaning they had had the last previous chance to score a point.
- If 4 teams are tied at the end of set 1 then we play 3 golden points. Teams 1 and 2 (based on order) play each other first with team 1 serve receiving.
Winner goes through. Teams 3 and 4 play the next point with team 3 serve receiving. Winner goes through. Final point is played between the 2 losing teams. They rock off for serve/reception and loser of that point is eliminated.
For each season you enter individually and play a 7 week season. Each week you will be partnered with a different player from your grade. The draw for this will be posted at the start of the season. At the end of each round points will be awarded as follows:
1st place - 12 points
2nd place - 8 points
3rd place - 6 points
4th place - 4 points
5th place - 2 points
If at any stage you cannot play it is up to you to find a replacement player. They will represent you on the ladder. Any points they earn for you will be halved for that round as you weren't there. Failure to find a replacement player and you will still incur the $20 cost of the round plus be deducted 2 points from the ladder.
The winner at the end of the season will receive $180 plus free entry into next season. The runner up will receive free entry also.
